10/6/10 – Tomorrows’ precision manufacturing work force: The NIMS Student Summit at IMTS 2010
10 June 2010
The National Institute for Metalworking Skills, (NIMS) Student Summit provides school and college-goers with a platform to learn about manufacturing, meet industry professionals and view live demos.
The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) which includes the NIMS Student Summit, opens on September 13 to 18, 2010 and is sponsored by The Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT.)
The career development centre (CDC) is the focal point of the student summit. It will include exhibitions from companies and colleges associated with the manufacturing industry and will give students a chance to ask questions and speak with professionals about their future career opportunities. Post-graduates may drop off their CVs and contact details at the CDC for participating companies to review for job positions.
Each student visitor will receive a career resource CD that has links to online resources, templates for CVs and information on NIMS accredited programs at US colleges and universities. Students will also receive a guide to the show, created for young visitors to make the most of IMTS 2010 and to offer further opportunities to liaise with industry professionals on student friendly exhibits, such as those run by Sandvick Coromant and Mori Seki.
NIMS Exectutive Director Stephen Mandes said, “It is exciting to put together such a comprehensive program to serve our youth who are clearly the future of manufacturing. We can do an outstanding job of communicating the wide variety of exciting and rewarding career options in precision manufacturing.”
Peter Eelman, IMTS Vice President, Exhibitions & Communications said, “The future of manufacturing rests heavily on having a smart and capable work force. We are offering the opportunity for students and educators to experience IMTS, be immersed in precision manufacturing and interact with industry professionals, as well as take advantage of the outstanding program NIMS has planned for our student attendee.”
NIMS Student Summit at IMTS 2008 saw over 9,000 students and teachers. IMTS is now the largest US manufacturing technology show and is held every other year in Chicago. A stage for introducing and selling new and tried and tested manufacturing equipment and technology, IMTS attracts more than 90,000 visitors from over 116 countries.
