17/12/10 – US Aerospace Industry Posts ‘Solid Results’
17 December 2010
According to Marion C. Blakey, the president and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association, AIA, the US aerospace industry has produced solid results, “including a new sales record for the seventh straight year, leading all manufacturers in trade surplus and providing a sense of stability amidst the chaos of economic upheaval.”
A preliminary sales figure of US$216.5 bn has been posted by the industry which is an increase of 20% on 2009. While this is still short of the high of 2007, Blakey hoped that the rise in sales marks the end of the decline in orders.Rising imports and falling exports led to a five percent drop in the US industry’s trade balance buth still managed an overall surplus of US$53.3 bn. The association says this is the strongest result for any manufacturing industry.
Blakey also mentions that employment in the industry has continued to decline for the second year in a row albeit at a slower rate than initially projected.
