21/12/10 – 3M Launches Shaft Mounted Bristle for Deburring and Cleaning
21 December 2010
3M Scotch-Brite Radial Bristle Brushes are now available mounted on a 6mm shaft. The company says this is the first time this type of product is ready to use straight from the box. The aim is to make component cleaning, light deburring and weld discoloration removal quicker and easier.
The shaft-mounted version is also more durable and cost-efficient as no additional mandrels are required says 3M. 3M Scotch-Brite Shaft Mounted Radial Bristle Brushes are available in 50mm and 76mm diameters, in P80, P120 and P220 grades.
According to the company bristle abrasive technology consists of a unique formation containing 3M Cubitron abrasive grain, with individual moulded discs grouped together to form a brush. This system offers significant performance advantages when working with irregular surfaces or detailed features, alongside increased safety when compared with wire brushes.
Sam Parker of 3M’s Abrasive Systems Division explained: “Bristle abrasive products have become firmly established as a rapid, simple and convenient way to clean and remove discoloration from a variety of substrates, including metal, wood, plastics and composite materials. Now, the process is further quickened and simplified as the product is pre-mounted and can be fitted to the tool in a matter of a few seconds.”
