27/6/11-Cubitron II abrasive contributes to “a safer and more productive environment”
27th June 2011
3M’s Cubitron II abrasives technology platform has won the TechAmerica Foundation’s American Technology Award in the manufacturing category. The foundation awards are presented annually to signify the best technological achievements of American industry in 14 categories. The award was accepted by Robert Cowan, the manufacturing technology manager for 3M Abrasives Systems Division, who thanked the Foundation and added “3M is honoured by the recognition and very pleased that its technology is contributing to a safer and more productive environment in this important sector of manufacturing.”
Cubitron II combines several of 3M’s core technology platforms to create precision-shaped, uniformly sized, ceramic-based oxide triangles that are positioned with their cutting edges facing the work surface. The result is a faster and higher quality performance along with ergonomic and safety benefits and a reduction in the need for abrasive waste disposal. In fact, productivity gains in ranges of up to 100%, or more, have been reported.
The TechAmerica Foundation, which launched in 1981, is an affiliate of TechAmerica and was formed by a merger of the American Electronics Association, the Information Technology Association of America, the Cyber Security Industry Alliance and the Government Electronics and Information Technology Association.
