2010 – Major Technical Report on Abrasives Industry Published
20 July 2010
A comprehensive technical review of current and potential developments within the abrasives industry has been completed and is available from Intelligence Market. The report entitled, “Abrasives Products and their Applications, provides a picture of the possible directions that developments within the abrasives industry might take.
At a time when the abrasives industry has suffered from the global economic downturn, the report gives a picture of the new opportunity for the industry. While some abrasive materials and their related tooling solutions are well-established and understood, there are number of key drivers that could open up new applications. The emergence of new workpiece materials such as novel aerospace composites and sophisticated lightweight titanium allows, for example, is already leading to the need to create new tools based on suitable abrasives.
Current drivers of cost, environment, higher performance and novel applications influence tool design. For some abrasives such as synthetic diamond the driving down of the cost of manufacturing has led to its wider use and in novel markets that are outside traditional abrasives markets.
The report has been written and researched by Dr. Stuart Nailer, who is an expert in abrasive application research. The review’s scope is based on two types of research. One relates to a study of the patent activities for abrasives materials and tools and gives an overview of those companies that are more active in abrasives-related intellectual property and what are the current subject areas of development. The second part of the research review looks at university research related to abrasive materials and tools. The report aims to gives an insight into possible future areas of materials and applications development.
The report look at all the major abrasive product times, grains and materials, bonded abrasives, coated abrasives and superabrasives. For anyone with an interest in learning how to build new business in the abrasives industry, this report may represent good value being priced at €2750 (£2300, US$3500)
