Caterpillar to open engineering design centre in the US
5 August 2010
Caterpillar, one of the largest manufacturers of construction and mining equipment, has announced plans to build an engineering design centre in Rapid City, South Dakota. The new facility will be called the Black Hills Engineering Design Centre.
The facilities’ purpose will be to provide additional engineering support services for Caterpillars US operations. Caterpillar already has engineering design centers in India and Illinois. Once completed, it will employ 100 staff. Construction of the centre is expected to end before the end of 2010.
"The Black Hills Engineering Design Center is part of Caterpillar’s Product Development and Global Technology Division’s engineering services strategy to increase velocity and, ultimately, better serve our customers," said Caterpillar Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Tana Utley. "For years, Caterpillar has benefited from a long relationship with the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology."
